Kuwaiti Man Has Been Arrested In Connection With The Alleged Rape Of An Egyptian Woman In The Al Salimi Desert.
Local media reported that a Kuwaiti man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of an Egyptian woman in the Al Salimi desert.
It is alleged that the suspect pretended to be the son of one of the Members of the National Assembly before raping his victim.
When he was arrested, he was found to have a criminal history and had been charged with theft, robbery, and drug abuse.
According to Kuwaiti Penal Code, rape is defined as a crime against honor that places women and girls as the vessels of honor instead of recognising their human rights to bodily integrity and sexual autonomy.
The criminal code of 1960 criminalizes both rape and indecent assault under article 186. According to Articles 191 and 192 of the Penal Code (1960), sexual harassment is punishable by a jail sentence of up to ten years, or a sentence of up to fifteen years when committed in the context of hatred, threats or deception.
Rapists and/or kidnappers are exempt from punishment under Article 182 of the Penal Code (1960) if they marry their victim and obtain her guardian's permission.
