New Addiction Treatment Center Highlights Kuwait’s War On Drugs
Kuwait has reinforced its unwavering commitment to tackling the drug crisis through a comprehensive strategy that integrates strict legislation, prevention programs, and international collaboration. This stance was reiterated by Third Secretary Rehab Al-Farhan, a member of the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to Vienna, during the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).
Adhering to Global Commitments in the Fight Against Drugs
Al-Farhan emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to implementing the recommendations outlined during the 67th session of the CND, which conducted a mid-term review for 2024. She also reaffirmed Kuwait’s dedication to fulfilling the obligations of the 2019 Ministerial Declaration, ensuring the country’s active participation at national, regional, and international levels to combat drug-related issues.
Strict Legislation and Law Enforcement Against Drug Trafficking
Kuwait has adopted a strict legal framework supported by advanced security measures to curb drug trafficking. The country’s security forces, working in coordination with key institutions, have successfully implemented best practices to track and prosecute traffickers. Despite being a prime target for drug dealers, Kuwait has achieved notable success in terms of high drug seizure rates and increased prosecution of offenders.
Enhancing Treatment and Rehabilitation for Drug Addicts
Recognizing the importance of rehabilitation, Kuwait has invested in the health and psychological well-being of drug addicts. Specialized treatment centers provide recovery programs aimed at reintegrating individuals into society. In a major step forward, a new addiction treatment facility with a capacity of 200 beds was inaugurated last month, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing substance abuse.
Awareness Campaigns and Educational Initiatives
In addition to law enforcement and rehabilitation efforts, Kuwait places significant emphasis on prevention and awareness. Al-Farhan highlighted the role of families and educational institutions in fostering early awareness. To support this, Kuwait has launched school and university-based awareness programs alongside public campaigns in collaboration with private-sector partners and civil society organizations.
