Massive Food Fraud Busted: 23 Tons Of Tampered Goods Seized During Warehouse Raid

In a major crackdown on commercial fraud, Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, has seized 23 tons of tampered food products from a warehouse operated by a prominent food retail company.

Illegal Label Tampering and Food Origin Misrepresentation

According to reports from Al-Rai, warehouse employees were found relabeling food items to alter their declared country of origin. The affected goods included dried shrimp, mixed nuts, spices, and legumes. This misrepresentation aimed to deceive consumers and gain unfair market advantage.

Fake Expiry Dates Pose Severe Health Risks

Authorities also discovered an alarming practice: the falsification of food expiry dates. Expired food products were being relabeled with extended shelf life tags, putting public health at serious risk.

Immediate Confiscation and Legal Action

The joint inspection team swiftly confiscated all tampered goods. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the company responsible for this large-scale deception. Officials stressed that such violations are not only unethical but criminal and punishable under Kuwaiti law.
