Expat Families Earn An Average Income Of 939.8 Dinars Per Month
A Kuwaiti family's average monthly income in 2021, without calculating the rental value, was KD 3,994.9, according to the acting director of the Central Department of Statistics, Mania Al-Qabandi, an increase of 2.2% over the 2013 income and expenditure survey.
Al-Qabandi said, during a conference titled “Release of the results of the Spending and Income Survey for 2021”, that the average monthly income of a non-Kuwaiti family in 2021, without taking into account rental values, was KD 939.8, a 2.3 percent increase over 2013 income survey and expenditure.
The average monthly expenditure of a Kuwaiti family without taking into account the rental value in 2021 amounted to KD 3,296.6, an increase of 5.6 percent compared to the income and expenditure survey conducted in 2013. The average monthly expenditure of a Kuwaiti family after calculating the rental value was KD 4,138.8. In contrast, according to Al-Qabandi, an average monthly expenditure of a non-Kuwaiti family in 2021 was KD 1,071.3 without calculating the rental value, an increase of 4.4 percent compared to the 2013 Income and Expenditure Survey, whereas with the rental value taken into account, a non-Kuwaiti family spent KD 1,071.3 on an average monthly expenditure.
She indicated that the Central Administration of Statistics completed the Household Income and Expenditures Survey Project (2019-2021) in collaboration and partnership with the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development and the Office of the United Nations Development Program.
The sample size was determined to include 4,032 families distributed over 12 months at a rate of 336 families per month, as the percentage of Kuwaiti families reached 33.3 percent and 66.7 percent of non-Kuwaiti families were distributed across all governorates.
She said that the Household Income and Expenditure Survey is used as the basis for describing and analyzing a wide range of economic and social issues, including providing a broad base of economic, social, and demographic information, identifying consumer goods and services in Kuwaiti society at all levels, and determining the relative distribution of expenditures. Among the most important results of the survey are calculating the average income of households and individuals according to the various sources of income, evaluating the level, structure and trends of household economic well-being in terms of income distribution, and studying the relationship between the population and housing characteristics of households and their income, as well as the relationship between household spending and income.
In order to achieve Kuwait's vision of becoming a financial and commercial center by 2035, Al-Qabandi said a national statistical apparatus must strengthen the system and update it with the latest international statistical standards and all the required data.
The Supreme Council for Planning and Development Secretary General, Dr. Khaled Mahdi, stated that the survey combined the sources of income each family receives with aspects of spending on essentials, luxuries, transportation, housing, and others, indicating that the survey provides a comprehensive breakdown of income and expenditures. The results will be published on the Central Statistical Administration's website.
