Kuwaiti Cabinet Reviews T2 Project, Food Security, And Regional Readiness
The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers convened its weekly session on Tuesday at Bayan Palace, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister.
Celebrating the Hijri New Year and Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
The Cabinet extended warm greetings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the occasion of the Hijri New Year 1447 AH. Prayers were offered for Kuwait’s prosperity and for peace in the Arab and Islamic world.
Ministers also reviewed messages received by His Highness the Amir from leaders of allied nations, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across multiple sectors.
Focus on National Readiness and Security
In response to ongoing regional developments, the Cabinet reviewed the report from the Ministerial Committee for Food, Drug, and Water Security. Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi confirmed the readiness of pharmaceutical and medical stockpiles to support hospitals and health centers over extended durations.
Commerce and Industry Minister Khalifa Abdullah Al-Ajil Al-Askar presented a detailed overview of Kuwait’s strategic food reserves, including cooperative society monitoring and bottled water availability.
Development Updates: Airport Terminal 2 and Economic Zones
Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan updated the Cabinet on the progress of Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 (T2). The terminal has earned a LEED Gold certification for its sustainable design and energy efficiency, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. The project encompasses infrastructure, access roads, service buildings, and aviation facilities.
The Cabinet expressed appreciation to Dr. Al-Mashaan and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for their leadership in the T2 initiative.
Northern Economic Zone and Islands Project
Housing and Municipal Affairs Minister Abdullatif Hamed Al-Mishari delivered a presentation on the Northern Economic Zone, highlighting key development on Bubiyan and Failaka Islands. This initiative aims to boost non-oil revenues and attract private sector investments in industry, trade, and tourism.
Entertainment City: Boosting Tourism and Economy
Officials from KDIPA, the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), and the General Reserve Sector discussed plans for a new Entertainment City. The project is expected to revitalize tourism and economic activity through partnerships with top global investors and operators. This aligns with Kuwait’s vision to become a regional hub for entertainment and leisure.
Strengthening Laws to Combat Terrorism
In its effort to counter terrorism financing, the Cabinet approved a draft decree to amend Law No. 106 of 2013. This legislative update will be submitted to His Highness the Amir for final ratification. The move reinforces Kuwait’s commitment to aligning its legal framework with international anti-terrorism standards.
Public Holiday Announced for Hijri New Year
The Civil Service Commission has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of the Hijri New Year. Government work will resume on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Agencies responsible for essential services are exempted from the holiday declaration.
Cabinet Approvals and Follow-Up Actions
The Cabinet wrapped up its session by reviewing various proposals. Several were approved on the spot, while others were referred to the relevant ministerial committees for further review and procedural follow-up.
