Kuwait Shares Innovative Solutions For Sand Accumulation And Traffic Safety At Arab Forum
The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) of Kuwait participated in a high-level meeting on traffic safety among Arab nations, hosted by the League of Arab States in Cairo. The event provided a platform for exchanging expertise and fostering regional cooperation in improving road safety standards across member countries.
Showcasing Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and Development Plan
Dr. Asmaa Al-Azmi, representing the Ministry of Public Works, presented Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and the National Development Plan, underscoring the nation’s commitment to enhancing public services and infrastructure, particularly through innovations in traffic safety systems.
Focus on Sand Accumulation and Traffic Hazards
A significant focus of Dr. Al-Azmi’s presentation was Kuwait’s proactive efforts to mitigate the issue of fine sand accumulation (Safi) on external roadways—a challenge that poses serious safety risks.
Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Solutions
Al-Azmi emphasized collaboration between MPW and key institutions, including KISR, KFAS, and the Environment Public Authority. A committee is working on a document titled "Mitigating and Combating Sand Encroachment in the State of Kuwait."
Strategic Plan to Recycle Sand for Economic Benefit
The government is shifting from outsourcing sand removal to purchasing and recycling it for use in agriculture and industry, supporting the circular economy.
Optimizing Contracts for Efficiency
MPW is converting traditional removal contracts into competitive bidding contracts to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Praise for Regional Efforts and Presentations
Al-Azmi praised the contributions of delegations from Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Qatar, and Somalia for sharing solutions to traffic safety issues.
Participation of Kuwait's Transport Leaders
The delegation was led by Engineer Mamdouh Al-Enezi of the Public Authority for Roads and Transport, alongside Dr. Al-Azmi.
