Kuwait Strengthens Global Human Rights Cooperation During UN Commission Meetings in Vienna

Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, reaffirmed Kuwait’s dedication to enhancing global cooperation in the field of human rights. During her inaugural official visit to Austria, she met with the Director of Human Rights at the Austrian Foreign Ministry at their headquarters in Vienna. This meeting took place amid the 34th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), where Kuwait actively participates as a member of the UN Human Rights Council.

Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher emphasized Kuwait’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Austria by exchanging expertise and coordinating on international platforms to promote human rights. She highlighted Kuwait’s ongoing regional initiatives and collaboration with global partners to uphold international human rights standards.

Kuwait’s Judicial and Legislative Modernization in Line with International Standards

In a related address at the 34th CCPCJ session, Kuwait’s Attorney General, Justice Bader Al-Mosad, praised the leadership of Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), for supporting member states in combating crime and promoting justice. Justice Al-Mosad outlined Kuwait’s legislative advancements, including new laws focused on anti-corruption, child rights protection, and comprehensive reforms aligned with Kuwait Vision 2035.

He also detailed Kuwait’s proactive measures against human trafficking, such as establishing the National Committee on Human Trafficking and launching the national strategy for 2025-2028. Updates to foreigners’ residency laws reflect Kuwait’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.

Combatting Crime with Respect for Human Rights and Rule of Law

Justice Al-Mosad underscored the pivotal role of Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior in developing crime prevention strategies, particularly targeting cybercrime and illegal trafficking, ensuring these efforts uphold human rights and strengthen the rule of law. He reiterated Kuwait’s belief in international collaboration and knowledge-sharing to tackle evolving criminal threats.

Kuwait remains committed to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 16, which focuses on peace, justice, and strong institutions. Justice Al-Mosad concluded by assuring Kuwait’s ongoing positive and constructive cooperation with global partners to advance justice and security worldwide.
