Kuwait Approves Retirement For Women With Revoked Citizenship

26 April 2025 Kuwait
Sheikh Fahad Orders Retirement Approval and Benefits for Women Affected by Citizenship Revocation Under Article 8 Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah has issued directives to Minister of Finance Noura Al-Fassam to approve retirement applications for women whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked under Article 8 of the Nationality Law. These individuals are to receive the same retirement privileges as Kuwaiti citizens, ensuring equality and justice.

In a press statement, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef clarified that the directive specifically applies to those who were still employed at the time their citizenship was withdrawn and who meet the eligibility criteria under Law No. 61/1976 of the Public Institution for Social Security. As per Article 17, Clause 5, the requirements include a minimum of 15 years of service and a minimum age of 50.

Service Conditions and Civil Service Commission Verification

To qualify, the service period must exclude:

  • Absentee days
  • Unpaid leave
  • Previously compensated service periods excluded at the employee’s request

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will verify each case to ensure the individuals were not on contract-based employment. Once confirmed, the applicants will receive retirement benefits similarly to other eligible women.

This follows the Cabinet's December 2024 resolution, based on the amended Law No. 158/2024, which revised Article 16 of Nationality Law No. 15/1959. The amendment allows the Cabinet to retain certain rights if deemed in the public interest.

PAM Confirms Labor Support for 3,098 Female Workers

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced that the national labor subsidy for 3,098 individuals will be deposited into their bank accounts on Thursday. Retroactive payments will be included with their May salaries.

This is in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. 420/2025, which supports women in the private sector whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked under Article 8. This affirms Sheikh Fahad’s directive to uphold justice and ensure equal rights for female private sector employees.

Government Moves Toward Justice and Inclusivity

These efforts highlight Kuwait’s dedication to legal fairness and human rights. By granting pensions and financial support to affected women, the government reinforces its commitment to dignity, justice, and inclusivity.
