Kuwait Approves 16 Contracts To Modernize Sewage And Water Infrastructure
16 Contracts to Transform Kuwait’s Sewage and Water Systems
Over the past decade, Kuwait’s government has approved 16 contracts aimed at overhauling the country’s sewage and water systems. These contracts, primarily managed by the Ministry of Public Works, are part of a larger effort to support Kuwait’s vision of becoming a financial and commercial hub by developing modern infrastructure and creating environmentally friendly residential areas.
Deep Tunnel System to Protect Kuwait Bay
One of the most ambitious projects is a deep tunnel system designed to prevent sewage flows into Kuwait Bay. This system will connect emergency lines to all stations and rain outlets, thereby minimizing environmental damage and sewage spills. This project will also aim to reduce marine pollution and address the longstanding issue of sewage water affecting the marine ecosystem.
Additionally, there will be efforts to close sewage connections with rainwater drainage networks, with a plan to divert excess water during emergencies to a dedicated treatment plant. The project is expected to be tendered in March 2025 with a 36-month implementation period.
Treated Water Systems to Boost Agriculture and Food Security
The government has also approved two major contracts focused on developing treated water systems in Kuwait’s northern and southern regions. These projects aim to increase agricultural output and bolster food security by improving access to treated water for farming. The tenders for these projects are expected to be announced in December, with a 60-month implementation period.
Timetable for Implementation
The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) will oversee the announcement and execution of these contracts, ensuring that each phase aligns with the government’s timetable.
