Kuwait Airport Terminal 2 Nears Completion as Ministry of Public Works Accelerates Kuwaitization and Project Governance

The Ministry of Public Works has confirmed that the Kuwait Airport Terminal 2 (T2) project is approaching full completion and will soon be officially handed over to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) for operation. This marks a significant advancement in Kuwait’s national infrastructure, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to fully governed, Kuwaitized project execution.

Leadership and Oversight by Minister Noura Al-Mishaan

Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Development and official spokesperson for the Ministry and the General Authority for Roads and Land Transport, Ahmed Al-Saleh, emphasized the importance of Minister Noura Al-Mishaan’s proactive involvement. Speaking to Kuwait TV's Al-Akhbar channel, he noted the minister’s dedication to monitoring the terminal’s progress and resolving challenges swiftly to maintain the project timeline.

“Overcoming obstacles is the biggest part of implementing any project,” Al-Saleh remarked. “The high completion rate at T2 reflects the success of her hands-on leadership.”

Implementation of Advanced GIS Monitoring Across Projects

To enhance transparency and efficiency, the ministry has adopted a geographic information system (GIS) developed in collaboration with the Public Authority for Civil Information. This tool allows comprehensive tracking of 12 ongoing Ministry of Public Works projects and six initiatives managed by the General Authority for Roads and Land Transport.

Full Kuwaitization of Supervisory Roles Achieved

Highlighting another major milestone, Al-Saleh announced the complete Kuwaitization of supervisory positions in all government contracts. A Kuwaitization unit was launched in partnership with the Public Authority for Manpower to empower local engineers.

“The ministry has fully Kuwaitized government contracts and their governance,” Al-Saleh stated. “This is a major achievement, with governance now firmly embedded within the civil service framework.”

Future Plans and Continued Development

In addition to Terminal 2, the ministry is actively engaged in several other major infrastructure developments across Kuwait. Al-Saleh reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuous improvement, transparency, and national capacity building.
