In its inaugural meeting yesterday, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) approved the issuance of electronic sick leave. In addition to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, and Acting Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Issa Al-Kandari issued the decision.

In accordance with the decision, employees may receive sick leave for no more than seven days at a time and no more than sixty uninterrupted days a year from government primary health care centers to whom they belong, as indicated on their civil card, or from government centers assigned to specific employers or from government centers approved by the Ministry of Health without visiting those health centers. The following limitations apply:-

- Sick leave with full pay for the first fifteen days

- Sick leave with half salary for the next fifteen days

- Sick leave with a quarter of salary for the next fifteen days.

- Sick leave without pay for the last fifteen days.

Additionally, the decision stipulates that sick leave granted by electronic means approved by the Ministry of Health shall not exceed three days per month without the employee visiting a health center. In accordance with what is stated in this clause, granting this leave through this method shall not increase or alter the maximum duration of the leave or type of salary for each period.

A decision allowed the Ministry of Health, the Civil Service Commission, and government agencies to replace the approved medical report via electronic communication, provided the decision is implemented from the date of its issuance and published in the official gazette.
