Groundbreaking Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Railway Link Set To Launch In 2026
Enhancing Economic Integration and Transportation Efficiency Between the Two Nations
The Project Management Committee between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has approved the outcomes of the financial, economic, technical, and social feasibility study for the railway link project between the two countries. This ambitious project aims to enhance transportation of passengers and goods, marking a significant step towards economic integration.
A government source revealed that the "initial design" phase of the project is set to launch soon, with international companies invited to participate. The actual implementation is slated to begin in 2026. The mutual visits and meetings between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are addressing any obstacles to ensure smooth progress.
The railway is expected to carry 3,300 passengers daily, making six round trips over approximately 500 kilometers in one hour and 40 minutes at high speed. The ticket prices for these train trips will be affordable, competing with plane and car travel in terms of speed and cost.
The project, which will enhance sustainable railway links and trade between the two countries, is separate from the Gulf connection project. It will start from the Shaddadiyah area in Kuwait and extend to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
The plan outlines a four-year completion timeline as part of a series of projects aimed at fostering economic integration and strengthening historical relations between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The Council of Ministers has directed the Ministry of Works and other concerned parties to expedite the project and submit periodic progress reports.
