Kuwait’s Public Authority for Food and Nutrition Seizes 377 kg of Spoiled Fish in Al-Mubarakiya Market: 57 Violations and 20 Closures Enforced

Details of the Inspections

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait has seized 377 kilograms of spoiled fish from Al-Mubarakiya Market following extensive inspections. Muhammad Al-Kandari, head of the Mubarakiya Center at the Authority, reported this to Al-Jarida, highlighting that inspections across the Capital Governorate are being conducted continuously.

Details of the Inspections

The recent inspection campaigns uncovered spoiled fish exhibiting altered natural properties, including changes in color, taste, smell, and shape, along with disintegrated scales and tissues. These findings violate Executive Regulation 20 of 2017, which mandates strict food safety standards.

As a result of the inspections, 57 violation reports were issued, leading to 20 administrative decisions to close food establishments. Specifically, eight closures were enforced in Al-Mubarakiya Market, with twelve additional closures in nearby areas under the Capital Governorate’s jurisdiction.

Types of Violations and Enforcement Actions

Al-Kandari elaborated that the violations involved trading in adulterated food and the lack of a food data card on the seized items. Establishments were also fined for poor hygiene practices, including the presence of live insects at food sites.

The ongoing inspection efforts are managed through a shift system and are overseen by Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij, Director General of the Public Authority for Food, and Mishaal Al-Zaabi, Deputy Director for Prevention and Inspection. These actions are part of the Authority’s commitment to protecting consumer health and combating commercial fraud in the food sector.
