200 Kuwaiti Women Reappointed By Ministry Under Service Contracts
The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has officially completed the procedures to appoint approximately 200 women whose Kuwaiti citizenships had previously been revoked. These women are being employed under government service contracts, aligning with terms set by the Civil Service Bureau and based on a Cabinet-approved decision.
Conditions for Appointment and Contract Renewal
According to ministry sources, the appointments will proceed once the selected women obtain the required clearance certificates and finalize other necessary steps. The Civil Service Bureau has emphasized that these employment contracts must adhere to established guidelines, including a review and approval process before any contract is officially finalized.
Additionally, these contracts are eligible for renewal, pending approval from the Central Agency for Bedoun Affairs, which oversees the legal and social status of stateless individuals in Kuwait.
Comprehensive Monthly Bonus Based on Previous Salaries
One key provision in this employment initiative is the inclusion of a comprehensive monthly bonus. Qualified individuals will receive an amount equivalent to the full salary they had been receiving before their citizenship was withdrawn. This approach seeks to ensure fair compensation and recognition of their previous service to the state.
Government’s Commitment to Stateless Individuals
This decision highlights the Kuwaiti government’s broader efforts to address the challenges faced by individuals whose Kuwaiti nationality has been revoked, particularly women. It aligns with Kuwait’s ongoing policies to provide humanitarian and employment support to stateless (Bedoun) individuals, a community whose issues have drawn local and international attention.
Broader Context and International Standards
Globally, governments are increasingly being urged to handle issues of citizenship revocation and statelessness in accordance with international human rights standards. Agencies such as the UNHCR have highlighted the importance of granting legal identity and access to employment for stateless individuals.
