15 Lose Kuwaiti Citizenship Over Fraud And Dual Nationality
In a significant move to safeguard national identity and uphold the law, the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship has recommended the revocation of citizenship for several individuals. The decision, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, awaits final approval by the Council of Ministers.
Grounds for Revocation
According to a press statement by the Ministry of Interior, the decision is rooted in several violations, including:
- Holding dual nationality,
- Acquiring Kuwaiti citizenship through fraudulent means such as false declarations or document forgery,
- And other violations deemed detrimental to Kuwait’s higher national interests.
The Ministry emphasized that these actions are taken to preserve the integrity of the Kuwaiti nationality and to prevent misuse that could threaten national stability.
Official Decisions Published
In a related update, the official gazette Kuwait Al-Youm published two separate decisions detailing the withdrawal of Kuwaiti nationality from a total of 15 individuals.
Article 10 Decision
One Kuwaiti woman was stripped of her citizenship under Article 10 of the Nationality Law, which allows revocation if citizenship was acquired based on false information or deception.
Article 11 Decision
Ten women and four men lost their nationality under Article 11, which provides for revocation in cases involving actions against national interest or loyalty.
These revocations align with Kuwait’s legal framework and are part of broader efforts to scrutinize citizenship files to ensure legitimacy and transparency.
Government's Ongoing Crackdown
This recent action forms part of an ongoing national campaign to cleanse the citizenship registry of irregularities. Authorities have repeatedly warned individuals who acquired Kuwaiti nationality unlawfully to come forward or face legal consequences.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to applying the law fairly and decisively, affirming that any manipulation or misuse of nationality documents will not be tolerated.
Broader Context
Kuwait has intensified efforts in recent years to tighten nationality regulations. This includes investigating cases where citizenship was acquired through tribal affiliations, marriage, or residency under suspicious circumstances. The government maintains that safeguarding citizenship is vital to national identity and social cohesion.
This decisive step underscores the seriousness with which the Kuwaiti government addresses violations of nationality law, sending a clear message about the importance of transparency, loyalty, and legal integrity in acquiring and retaining Kuwaiti citizenship.
