Hyderabad Police Seize Gold Worth 85 Lakhs From A Kuwaiti Passenger
Customs officials at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) made significant seizures on Monday, intercepting two passengers arriving from Kuwait who attempted to smuggle gold into the country. The valuable contraband was found hidden in various discreet locations, leading to arrests under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
In the first case, vigilant customs officials intercepted a passenger upon their arrival from Kuwait. During a meticulous search, it was discovered that this passenger had ingeniously concealed 1253 grams of gold, with an estimated value of Rs 75,80,650, inside a dustbin located in the men's toilet immediately after disembarking from the flight.
The gold was promptly seized, and the individual responsible for the smuggling attempt was arrested in accordance with the Customs Act, 1962. This incident highlights the determination of customs officials to combat illegal activities at the airport.
In a separate but equally significant incident, another passenger arriving from Kuwait was intercepted by customs officials. Suspicion arose when their check-in baggage underwent scanning, revealing hidden contraband. A total of 151 grams of gold, with an approximate value of Rs 9,16,570, was cleverly concealed as cut pieces within their luggage.
This discovery led to the immediate seizure of the gold, further underscoring the dedication of customs authorities to prevent smuggling activities at RGIA.
Ongoing Investigation:
As of a statement released on Tuesday, authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation into both cases is currently in progress. This investigative process aims to uncover any potential connections, sources, or networks involved in these smuggling attempts.
