Zain Hospital Has Conducted Sleeping Disorder Tests On 929 Patients
A medical consultant for respiratory diseases and sleep disorders at Zain Hospital Dr Mohammed Al-Bader disclosed that the hospital conducted sleeping disorder tests on 929 patients (613 men and 316 women) in 2017.
In a press statement, Dr Al-Bader explained that sleep apnea is regarded as one of the top causes of sleep disorders and the most common in Kuwait. It affects two to four percent middle-aged people and up to 20 percent elderly people.
There is an increase in the number of patients suffering from sleep disorders such that a comfortable sleep has become difficult for them to get. Sleeping disorder is an organic disease, not a psychological one. It is caused by many problems such as snoring, sleep apnea, allergies, rheumatism, heart diseases, anemia, chronic iron deficiency, acid reflux, hormone dysfunction and other causes that may lead to sleep disorders and need treatment.
It has been scientifically proven that obstructive sleep apnea is related to a number of diseases that include high blood pressure, irregular heart beat and stroke. Dr Al-Bader indicated that a high mortality rate has been noted among those suffering from this disease in addition to loss of memory and depression.
He highlighted that the most serious complications of the disease is possibility of traffic accidents due to lack of sleep owing to sleep disorder, adding that correct diagnosis must be made through sleep tests and that appropriate treatment leads to prevention of these complications.
