‘workers Residences Expired’ – Pam Suspends Files Of Some Companies
Director of Government Contracts and Projects Department at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Bassem Al-Enezi revealed that the authority has suspended the main files of companies that are associated with the implementation of government projects with the state and have not responded to its repeated calls regarding the liquidation of their workers registered on expired contracts, reports Aljarida daily. He explained that the Government Contracts and Projects Department addressed all labor departments affiliated with these files to suspend them until their status is modified, either by transferring those workers to other files or by ending the contractual status and sending them back to their countries.
In light of the recent mandate issued by the Cabinet to PAM to follow up coordination with the relevant government agencies to take legal measures for addressing defects in expired government contracts based on the recommendations of the Economic Affairs Committee, coordination was made with all government agencies that have expired government contracts to take measures for the liquidation of the workers registered on those contracts. In Article 9 of the administrative decision No. 27/2021 for the issuance of a list of rules and procedures for granting permission to work, the controls and requirements for canceling a main government contract or subcontracts will apply if the contract or government project ends or is withdrawn and the file or the license is suspended. A government contract will be canceled automatically after the lapse of one year from the expiry date of the contract or its extensions.
Regarding government contracts to allow the issuance of entry visas (visit visas) away from the estimated employment, Al-Enezi affirmed PAM’s commitment to what was stated in the aforementioned administrative decision, specifically article 8, which defined the controls and requirements for issuing labor permits submitted to implement emergency government projects (entry visas for a temporary government contract). It is worth mentioning that the efforts to coordinate with the relevant government agencies to take legal measures towards addressing defects in the expired government contracts have resulted in the cancellation of about 400 expired government contracts on which about 74,000 workers are registered, while about 800 contracts are still in the process of cancellation.
