Us Presents Ten Recommendations To Fight Against Trafficking In Persons
The United States has presented 10 recommendations to facilitate the fight against Trafficking In Persons (TIP), reports Al-Rai daily.
This was disclosed at the end of TIP Office’s Acting Principal Deputy Director at the US State Department Joel Maybury’s recent visit to Kuwait.
The recommendations include the need to exert concerted efforts in implementing laws related to the search, arrest and conviction of those involved in human trafficking, including Kuwaitis.
Speaking to the daily, Maybury admitted that human trafficking is common in the US; stressing the importance of tackling negative trends such as delay in paying immigrants’ salaries, which he said lingers over long periods reaching up to one year in some instances. He suggested amended to the sponsorship system will go a long way to make progress in the issue of TIP, besides providing shelters for victims of human trafficking.
He affirmed the implementation of domestic labor law is necessary, indicating the sector should be run by a centralized company while investigating issues and punishing sponsors and employers engaged in forced labor, as well as sponsors who take the
