Two Ministers Survive Vote On No-confidence Motions

 The National Assembly, during its special session Thursday renewed confidence in the Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Bakheet Al- Rasheedi and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent cables of congratulations to Al- Sabeeh and Al-Rasheedi after the Parliament renewed confidence in both ministers and hailed the performances of the two ministers against whom no-confidence motions had been filed following their interpellations.

His Highness the Amir also lauded the MPs for showing respect to democratic practices while discussing the axes of the two grilling motions. Furthermore, His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah also sent similar cables congratulating the two ministers.

Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouk Al-Ghanim also congratulated Al-Rasheedi and Al-Sabeeh after the Parliament renewed confidence in them during Thursday’s Parliament session.

The no-confidence against Al- Sabeeh was rejected by 28 MPs, 12 MPs voted in favor and 5 abstained. In the case of Al-Rasheedi the motion was rejected by 34 MPs while 11 voted in favor.

The Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh in a statement after the vote on the two noconfidence motions said, “We hope to turn this page after the renewal of confidence in the two ministers as there is neither a winner nor a loser in democracy. We have ahead of us duties that need cooperation of both authorities.”

He pointed out, “today we witnessed a democratic practice following three interpellations requests which were submitted against the Prime Minister and two ministers.” For their part, Al-Sabeeh and Al- Rasheedi thanked the National Assembly for renewing confidence in them. Both ministers addressed the Parliament after winning the no-confidence motion.

The ministers affirmed this renewed trust will not be wasted and vowed to seek measures to improve performances at their respective ministries.

MP Omar Al Tabtabaei said the questioning of Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak will be faster than expected, warning that if the Prime Minister is unable to hold the oil leaders accountable, he should quit. He indicated this grilling session serves as a fallen mask for some of the MPs who recorded new precedents in tribal and political alignment. Al-Tabtabaei said this after the Parliament renewed confidence in Al-Rasheedi and Al-Sabeeh.
