Trio Acquitted In Drugs Case
The Criminal Court chaired by Judge Fahad Al- Ateeqi acquitted two Kuwaiti men and a woman of allegedly possessing marijuana for the purpose of consumption and sale, while driving under the influence of illicit substance. The court ordered seizure of the alleged illicit items.
According to the case file, the prosecution officer narrated that detectives received a tip off that the first suspect was into drug consumption and sale, so they kept tab on his activities. The officers caught him at Shaab Area with the woman when both of them were under influence of the substance. A search was conducted on them leading to discovery of a packet of cigarette stuffed with suspicious dark substance on the first suspect. They followed him to his residence wherein similar packets of cigarette were found. The suspect confessed to ownership of marijuana, while he revealed that the third suspect, a neighbor who occupied the opposite apartment, was his source of supply.
The officers arrested the third suspect and searched his bedroom in which they found a certain quantity of marijuana and materials used in administering illicit drugs. He also confessed to be consuming and selling the items. Lawyer Bashar Al-Nassar in his defense disagreed with the police and accused them of over-zealousness, saying they acted without securing warrant. He argued that the officers could not prove the allegations since they did not catch his clients consuming, selling or buying marijuana.
