Traffic Department Has Suspended The Removal Of Number Plates From Vehicles Parked At No Parking Zones

Director General of Public Relations and Media Security Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash affirmed that General Traffic Department has suspended the removal of number plates from vehicles parked at “No Parking” zones. He added the policy will be replaced by impounding for two months all vehicles whose drivers do not wear seatbelt or use mobile phones by hands while driving, starting from Wednesday.

Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Fahad Al-Shuwa’e declared the sector will not hesitate in activating traffic rules to ensure the safety of road users. He revealed the implementation of Article 169 of the Constitution prohibits parking or waiting at locations meant for pedestrian crossing and pavements, noting the decision enforced since October 2017 has been fruitful.

He said citations issued against parking and waiting at wrong places on the average, as well as parking on pavements have reduced from 4000 to 150 daily after implementing Article 207 of Traffic Law. He disclosed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah issued a decision adding three new items to Article 207 of Traffic Law.

He noted traffic officers will impound vehicles for a maximum of two months, while bikers will pay KD 15 fine for not wearing helmet. The law affects drivers driving without seat belts or those carrying passengers in the front passenger seat who do not wear seat belts, as well as making phone calls by hand while driving.
