Ticket Prices Expected To Rise As Companies Incur Pcr Test Costs
While the airlines are preparing to implement the Cabinet’s decision on conducting PCR tests for all incoming passengers to the country, during arrival and during quarantine, an informed source in the aviation sector told Al-Qabas that the prices of air tickets will rise significantly, due to companies bearing the costs of PCR tests. Some of these companies will resort to creating travel offers within an integrated package that matches the supply and demand in the air transport market.
The source pointed out that until now there is no clear mechanism before the airlines of how to ensure that arrivals are booked into the institutional quarantine in the country’s hotels.
The source said that, until yesterday, the airlines had not received any new updates from the “civil aviation” regarding the continuation or increase of the capacity for arrivals to the country.
On the other hand, Abdul Rahman Al-Kharafi, a member of the Federation of Tourism and Travel Bureaus, told Al-Qabas: “We do not want any subsidies, loans or grants from the government. What we want is to let us work only,” adding that the sector’s losses came due to government decisions that are introduced without taking into account the economic and social aspects of the employers in the travel sector., who have become threatened by sudden changes.
He added, “The absence of travel agencies from managing institutional quarantine hotel reservations will lead to the collapse of dozens of offices in the sector, and will increase the depth of financial losses.”
Booking of hotels
Al-Kharafi clarified that the System for hotel reservation has not yet been started, and the arriving passengers cannot make reservations, as it has not officially launched.
