The Ukraine Rebel Regions Will Be Recognized As Independent By Putin

 

According to the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin has done a joint press conference with leaders of France and Germany on plans to recognise the two breakaway provinces in eastern Ukraine as independent entities.

The Kremlin said in a readout of the phone calls that the French and German leaders expressed disappointment in the decision.

A fragile peace process in the region is effectively buried by the West's warnings that Russia not recognize the separatists.

While there have been no reports of the Russian military crossing the border from Ukraine, a "diversionary reconnaissance" group has been prevented from doing so.
