The Philippine Embassy Evacuates 330 Of Its Citizens In Kuwait
Al-Qabas learned that the Philippine embassy in the country is about to evacuate about 330 members of the community tomorrow evening, Wednesday, among them more than 200 Filipino workers in the Philippine embassy shelter, including domestic workers who fled their work and those who lost their jobs due to Corona, in addition to Those who have medical problems or are currently living in Kuwait without legal papers.Â
Informed sources said that the embassy organized a chartered trip in cooperation with the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Manila and the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs, at the request of the embassy in Kuwait, noting that many of those stranded have been living in the embassy shelter for months, and have not received salaries or received late from the owners Work, and were abused.
The sources added that the Philippine embassy has also faced challenges due to the accumulation of passport renewal requests and the long wait for consular services at its temporary location in Hawalli, pointing out that there are an estimated 230,000 Filipinos in Kuwait, the majority of whom are domestic workers.Â
She indicated that the embassy provided facilities for its citizens to obtain papers and travel requirements such as exit visas for Filipinos, especially those classified as unregistered workers, to ensure their safe return to their families.Â
The sources pointed out that the trip is free, as the Philippine Airlines plane came to Kuwait for this purpose only, reassuring that those who fail to catch the plane will not be abandoned by their government, because the Foreign Ministry has sufficient funds to transport more Filipinos to Manila if necessary.
