The Oxford Doses That Arrived Are Sufficient For Those Who Received The First Dose

19 May 2021 Coronavirus

Professor of Pediatrics, a member of the Covid 19 Vaccination Committee at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Khaled Al-Saeed said that the number of beds occupied in hospitals with the Coronavirus within 3 months reflects the existing epidemiological situation, indicating that the second wave of the virus in Kuwait was more difficult, hoping that the number of infections will continue to decrease in light of the expansion of the process. Vaccination.

Al-Saeed stressed during his hosting of the Covid 19 Vaccination Committee on Kuwait TV with the “Kuwait Nights” program that the logical choice to distribute the doses to the elderly is to divide the doses by dose after another to give the immunized person the necessary immunity.

He added that “the vaccinated person is protected with excellent protection and does not transmit the virus to others, and the more the number of vaccinated people increases, we reach the required community immunity.”

He stressed that “the number of doses that arrived from the Oxford vaccine is sufficient for people who are vaccinated with the first dose.”

Regarding giving a single dose to someone who was already infected with the virus, Al-Saeed explained that “studies indicate that the first 3 months after infection, the probability of infection is unthinkable, and from 3 months to 6 months a little higher, and therefore after studies we decided to give someone who was infected with the virus one dose of the vaccine after 3 months”.

He continued: “If someone is infected and takes a dose of the vaccine after a certain period, the proportion of antibodies and immunity is times greater than that of receiving two doses of the vaccine.”

Al-Saeed added that “there are companies that require the absence of a local agent, such as Pfizer, which requested the absence of an intermediary, as it delivers the doses to the places designated for them.”

He pointed out that there were appeals for Kuwaiti students studying abroad to allow them to enter if they were vaccinated, confirming the approval of the Ministry of Health for their appeal in the event that they took one of the four approved vaccinations, as their vaccination certificates will be recognized at Kuwait airport and allowed to enter.

He pointed out that about 70,000 people were vaccinated in Kuwait through mobile units, announcing the arrival of a vaccine for children from 12 years old, as the Ministry of Health requested 200 percent additional shipments from Pfizer to vaccinate them.

For his part, a specialist in children and infectious diseases, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghunaim, said that the issue of the required period of time between the two doses has not been resolved yet in all countries of the world as some countries every 3 weeks and in countries every 3 months for the Pfizer vaccine, and the same applies to the Oxford vaccine, as some countries have identified 4 The most common between the two doses.

Al-Ghunaim commented on a recommendation by a medical organization in the United States not to need to wear masks for those who receive the vaccine. Today, there are 4 million people, ”indicating that“ the societal immunity that some states have reached has reached more than 40 percent, so the need to wear masks is almost non-existent. ”

On access to community immunity, he added that “there is no specific percentage of community immunity that differs from one country to another, and the rate of spread of the virus as well as adherence to health measures.”

He continued: “From statistical studies of the spread of the virus in areas with overcrowding, we need to reach from 60 to 80 percent of immunity, whether natural or vaccination.”

Al-Ghunaim added, “The vaccination campaign that began last December changed the course of the epidemic, not in Kuwait but in the world as a whole, and what we noticed is that the effectiveness of vaccination increased in Kuwait during the past 3 months.”

And he indicated that about 90 percent of those who entered intensive care were not vaccinated, stressing that the possibility of entering care for those who received the first dose is weak and almost non-existent for those who received the two doses.

Consultant clinical diseases, Dr. Mona Al-Ahmad, indicated that there is a principle for the vaccine by giving a stimulus dose and then another dose, confirming that many countries have set 12 weeks between the two doses and there are many studies in this regard that have focused on statistical analysis, where the effectiveness increased by 85 percent for the person given The second dose was given after 12 weeks.

Al-Ahmad said that there is a higher effort by an electronic system managed by an integrated medical team in all specialties to inspect and review all reports that reach them after vaccination, as the medical team deals with teams distributed over hospitals.

he added that the symptoms that were observed were mostly mild side effects, which were local pain, fever from one to two days, and headache. In addition to some cases, she had an itch and a rash while she was under investigation.

Donia Al-Bastaki, Head of Medicines Registration Department, said that the process of controlling vaccines is carried out according to stages, the first of which is the review of medicines, then conformity with them in terms of safety, then follow-up of side effects after use.

Bastaki added that the procedures for releasing any drug shipment take place after confirming the drug bill and requesting the certificates of analysis that were carried out on the shipment, adding that the third shipment of the Oxford vaccine arrived, but the certificates of analysis were not presented, so it was stored until the company provided the required analyzes.

he stated that the shipment arrived during the current month, indicating that the measures are not administrative, but rather technical, to ensure product safety to preserve the safety of citizens and residents.

On the prices of vaccines, Bastaki stressed that the price is determined by the manufacturer, and it does not differ if there is a local agent or not.

he denied the information circulating about the Oxford Vaccine Factory’s refusal to give vaccines to Kuwait, saying that the company’s factory in Russia is dedicated to Kuwait and the Gulf countries.

And she continued: “Because of the delay of the Russian factory in supplying during the previous period, Kuwait coordinated with the parent company and concluded that the first shipment was provided from the company’s factory in India, which is a certified international factory.”
