The Majority Of Expat Workers Are Domestic Helpers
According to the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), household workers constitute nearly 27 percent of Kuwait's total labor force, which is more than one quarter of the total expatriate population. By the end of 2021, only 24 percent of the total labor force was made up of household workers.
The total expatriate household workers is 753,000 at the end of 2022. Last year, it was 594,000 workers at the end of 2021. This household labor is divided between 347,000 males and 406,000 females. Indian male workers take the lead with 239,000 workers (196,000 at end of 2021), while Filipinos represent the largest female non-national workers at 199,000 (135,000 workers at the end of 2021).
India has the highest share of household workers of both genders, with 44.8%, followed by the Philippines with 26.6%. Out of 10 nationalities, India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka account for 94.9 percent of total household workers.
