The Kan Campaign: 70% Of Women With Breast Cancer May Have No Symptoms

The National Cancer Awareness Campaign “Kan” announced the completion of the third phase of the “Training of Trainers” program for breast cancer detection by graduating trainees launched by the campaign as part of its breast cancer awareness programs in the “Want Yourself” campaign.

The head of the campaign board, Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, said yesterday, during the closing ceremony of the training program, that the campaign aimed to prepare trainers in different places, with each trainer training ten women in their workplace, thus spreading awareness of the method of breast self-examination to a greater number of women.

Al-Saleh added that each trainee will be given a trainer certificate that enables her to train other women, and thus the training course has achieved its goal of spreading awareness to the target group, thus achieving a higher early arrival rate and more cure rates.

For her part, the physician who specializes in radiation oncology at the Kuwait Center for Cancer Control Dr. Mustafa Nashwa made a simple explanation of the anatomy of the breasts, lymph nodes, and mammary glands through illustrative pictures during the last lecture in the program, in addition to explaining how the self-examination works in different ways.

They mentioned that one of the causes of breast cancer is that a woman has a family history of breast cancer, or environmental-related causes (such as unhealthy nutrition, obesity, and others “that can affect women with breast cancer, indicating that about 60-70% will develop breast cancer. They have no symptoms.

They emphasized the importance of early detection of tumors, noting that the rate of cure with early detection reaches 90% and reduces the percentage of breast removal, radiological and chemical treatments, and also reduces psychological and nervous stress.
