The Incident At Central Prison Was Planned

04 June 2023 Crime News

It has been informed by security sources from the Central Prison that the suspension of some Ministry of Interior leaders within 24 hours of the incident at the Central Prison prior to the launch of the investigation committee was a plot hatched by several prisoners to cause a rampage, reports Aljarida daily. This was revealed in the report submitted by the committee within a record time of less than 16 hours, followed by the referral of the case to the Public Prosecution. The report highlighted that the fire of this conspiracy was being fueled by some who are at the forefront of electoral campaigns. In taking advantage of the electoral atmosphere and the ministry's entry into the final stages of preparation for next Tuesday's elections, they denounced the ministry and terrorized it.

A number of questions have been raised regarding the committee’s rapid completion of the investigation into the events, as well as the decision taken before the committee started working, suspending Major General Abdullah Saffah as Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Institutions and Special Security Forces Affairs. Additionally, Brigadier General Fahad Al-Obaid, Director General of the General Administration of Correctional Institutions, has been relieved of his duties and transferred to the ministry. Moreover, Brigadier Generals Adnan Murad, Yousef Al-Otaibi, and Khaled Al-Qallaf will be transferred to alternate operations positions. Brigadier General Walid Al-Ali will be transferred from the prison of deportation to the execution of sentences department.

Since the chaos broke out, the leaders had been planning "election" targets. During the incident, the prisoners spread false information about the entry of a large shipment of drugs into ward number, according to the sources. An ex-prisoner, released in the last amnesty, coordinated with a prisoner, identified as M.K., who was sentenced to life imprisonment for smuggling narcotics, as well as another prisoner, identified as H.H., who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

During the pre-prepared scenario, Special Forces officers searched the cells at 3:00am for narcotic substances. When the officers asked the prisoners to move to the headquarters' yard for a body search and to search the cells in their absence, they were surprised when one of the two prisoners started screaming and clashing with the officers. He then ordered the other prisoners to go on a rampage, scream and clash with the security officers. The prisoners began throwing shoes and other items from their cells at the officers, screaming, and trying to get out of the cells. One of them hid on the second floor and filmed everything using a mobile phone that was in his possession. In the end, the Special Forces officers managed to control the situation.
