Testing Of E-driving Licence Services Starts - Gtd
General Traffic Department yesterday launched an experimental operation to issue and renew driving licenses electronically similar to the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed sources.
They affirmed that the machines will be operated initially for receiving the transactions of citizens in principle followed by opening the door for expatriates in the near future.
It was earlier reported by the daily that the department would be using advanced electronic machines for the electronic issuance and renewal of Kuwaitis’ driving licenses all six governorates.
Sources from Ministry of Interior explained that a number of employees were given training on how to use the new system, and issue and renew the licenses electronically.
The department, in two months, would embark on the project to renew and issue driving licenses electronically only for Kuwaitis, and that expatriates will be covered in the project in the near future.
Ministry of Interior will create an electronic window to receive the transactions, which will be checked by employees. The applicant will later have to collect the license from a machine.
This procedure is similar to that carried out by PACI for issuing or renewing Civil IDs. The sources revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. Gen Sheikh Khalid Al- Jarrah has been personally involved in ensuring the success of the project within the ministry’s framework to eliminate paper transactions.
Prior to this, Ministry of Interior had signed a contract with a Polish company, which specializes in the issuance of smart driving licenses, to participate in the project to issue and renew driving licenses through smartphones and Kiosk system in order to ease congestion at the traffic departments and facilitate services to citizens and residents.
The company, which is certified by ISO, was contracted by Ministry of Interior to complete this project and operate it according to the latest international specifications with the cooperation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
