As part of plan by the Ministry of Works to rehabilitate main roads and sub-roads affected by the recent rainfall crisis, Central Tenders Authority has approved 8 variation orders for existing maintenance contracts worth KD 14.5 million at a rate of over KD 1.5 million per contract to use the improved asphalt mix instead of the old specification in the contracts, which cover damaged streets in areas where no maintenance contracts were signed and require a long waiting period for new tenders, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Director-General of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PARLT) Engineer Suha Ashkanani expressed satisfaction with the approval of the authority for the variation orders, describing it as a “positive step” to complete the road network repairs.

She said approval of the variation orders will help accelerate the maintenance work to be accomplished according to timetable and in parallel with the disbursement of funds to contractors to accelerate the pace of work and accelerate completion. She explained that PARLT is currently working on the maintenance of King Fahd Highway and the Sixth Ring Road, indicating the work of the authority in the maintenance of roads did not stop
