Syrian Denies Killing The Houbara Bird
The Syrian who was arrested on the charge of killing the houbara bird which is considered an endangered species by the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) surprised the Environment Public Authority (EPA) members with a different story, reports Al-Rai daily.
He stated the video he made is a fabrication saying the bird was caught outside Kuwait. He went on to say the bird was slaughtered inside Kuwait when he made the video clip.
On the strength of the video clip the man was referred to the Prosecution for threatening the endangered species, but he denied the charges filed against him by the EPA. “Despite what has been said by the suspect, the prosecution will investigate and verify the authenticity of his account, until it is confirmed that the bird was not hunted in Kuwait but brought from ‘abroad’ as he claims. The source confirmed that the Environmental Law in Kuwait No. 101/2015 is strict and the penalties for certain environmental crimes may reach a fine of 50,000 dinars and/or 3 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the Al-Anba daily quoting the director of Inspection and Control Department at the EPA Dr Masha’al Al-Ibrahim, affirmed that the environmental law criminalizes these practices and penalties vary. He pointed out that the penalty for posting the video clip ranges between 250 and 500 dinars if it is proved the bird was not hunted in Kuwait
