04 April 2022 Kuwait

As part of humanitarian effort, Kuwaiti ophthalmologist Dr. Khaled Al-Sabbti successfully performed emergency surgery in Kuwait on an Eleven-year-old Palestinian girl living in Jordanian refugee camps to restore her vision.

The surgery was done to Roa'a Ahed, in the left eye, at the Kuwait Specialized Eye Center, according to Dr. Khaled Al-Sabti of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and Kuwait Embassy. Roa'a Ahed had undergone another operation in her right eye last Wednesday.

Last February as part of a KRCS delegation to Syrian refugee camps, they learned that Palestinian child Roa'a had lost almost a year's worth of sight.

The Kuwaiti Embassy in Jordan assisted the KRCS with procedures for hosting the child and she arrived in Kuwait with her father last week, he said.

According to Maha Al-Barjas, KRCS Secretary-General, the KRCS is keen to implement various humanitarian and relief works in various countries throughout the year, in collaboration with partners.

“We, at the Red Crescent, work within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. What we do is part of what we do to help people internally and externally,” she explains.

We are hoping that Roa'a's surgery will be successful so she can resume her normal life and studies, she added. For Roa'a Ahed, and her father, Ahed Abdullah, the State of Kuwait's humanitarian work has been highly appreciated.
