Students Affected By Physical Violence
A number of schools continue to witness incidents involving violence, despite the decisions taken by Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamid Al-Azmi to confront violence in schools by receiving complaints directly from parents of students affected by physical violence.
Al-Seyassah daily received a number of such complaints including that of the father of a grade 5 student at Al-Muthanna Primary School for Boys. He had a medical report issued by Farwaniya Hospital as per which the student sustained bruises on his left toes.
The father explained that he had complained to the school manager and met the assistant manager who summoned the teacher.
The Kuwaiti Physical Education teacher admitted to hitting the student with a stick but justified his action by saying he is a supervisor and is responsible for controlling the students. The father said the student then shouted at him and prevented him from completing his speech, and the teacher then said, “This is your son, take him and go anywhere, and do all that you can do”.
;
The father then lodged a complaint with the director of the concerned educational district.
Meanwhile, a grade 1 female student sustained an eye injury when she was hit with a pair of scissors by another student of grade 2. The incident happened in the absence of supervision by teachers due to which prompt actions to save the pupil were not taken, especially since scissors are sharp tools that should not be used by children without close supervision.
The girl’s father obtained a medical report that indicated the injury to his daughter’s eye. He lodged a complaint against the school at the Investigation Department of Farwaniya Educational Zone.
