Statements Issued By Mps Against Expatriates Are Based On Their Individual Opinions
Deputy Assistant of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Human Rights Office in Ministry of Foreign Affairs Counselor Talal Al- Mutairi insists that the statements issued by MPs against expatriates are based on their individual opinions.
Al-Mutairi said this in a statement he issued on the sidelines of a meeting organized by the Human Rights Office with NGOs in order to discuss the readiness of Kuwait in preparing the integrated (3rd- 6th) report concerning application of the international treaty for economic, social and cultural rights in the presence of a number of representatives of ministries and public welfare associations.
He said the government is well aware about its responsibility and the international commitments in terms of human rights. He praised the expatriate workers in Kuwait for their important role in developing Kuwait.
Al-Mutairi affirmed that positive progress has been achieved in terms of child protection, highlighting the enforcement of child protection law in 2015. He said the law meets the international criteria, highlighting the important steps taken by Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior in this regard.
Al-Mutairi stressed the keenness of Kuwait to uphold human rights, clarifying that the number of cases that are in violation of human rights are very few and are mostly individual cases. Regarding the cases affecting children, he stated that some cases of violence against children have been recorded but there are no recorded death cases, adding that Ministry of Health has formed a committee for enhancing child protection.
Al-Mutairi revealed that the High Commissioner of Human Rights praised the reports of two countries including Kuwait, explaining that they previously never used to consult civil society organizations but in the last two years.
