Social Media User Creates Fake Twitter Account For Education Ministry Official

An unidentified social media user impersonated Education Ministry Undersecretary Dr Saud Al Harbi and opened a fake Twitter account under his name.

The fake account features the photo and official title of Dr Al Harbi, who has no official social media accounts, according to Al Qabas.

The account unveiled the ministry’s plan to "launch a new national educational strategy along quality assurance benchmarks".

Some social media users got trapped, sending their complaints and queries to the fake Twitter account of the undersecretary who pledged to address them promptly.

The fake account set appointments for some citizens to meet the undersecretary on Wednesday at his office in the Ministry of Education.

Sources revealed that the ministry would file a case with the cyber crime authorities to uncover the identity of the fake account owner and take legal measures.
