Second Phase Of First Ring Road Project To Change The Traffic Scene At Kuwait City

The Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport recently started the second phase of the development of Sabah Al Awal Road - the first ring road - which will make a qualitative shift in the traffic scene at the heart of Kuwait city.

The development of first ring road covers several vital facilities belonging to various government agencies in the country, and include the involvement of more than 50 parties during the implementation period.

In addition to its significant role in facilitating traffic to and from the heart of the densely populated capital area, it dramatically helps to implement plans to develop and modernize the capital region in the future.

The second stage of the "first ring road project" begins at the intersection of Al-Soor Street, near the Al-Hamra Tower, passing through the intersection of Dasman Palace, all the way to the Amiri Hospital, the Palace Authority building, covering many banks and the new Central Bank building to end at the Grand Mosque and the Stock Exchange.

The second phase includes three tunnels with a total length of 1750 meters. The first one is located at the intersection of Al Soor Street, and it connects the Society of Engineers and Al Shuhada Street and is 550 meters long. As for the second tunnel, it is located below the old Dasman Roundabout, and it connects Sharq and Ahmad Al-Jaber Street, its length is about 600 meters, and the third is located below Khalid Bin Al-Walid Street, and it connects Al Khaleej Street and the East Police Station Roundabout.

Three stations were established to collect and raise rainwater from tunnels and drain them into sewers. The street lighting network and the rest of the services and infrastructure were updated.

Completion of the First Ring Road project will improve access to downtown Kuwait City while reducing traffic congestion where a large number of people are commuting daily, especially during the office hours.
