School Rents Were Exempted From Fatwa During Corona

12 May 2022 Kuwait

Some private schools using government premises have been spared from paying rent during the closing period caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, according to the Fatwa and Legislation Department.

According to a local Arabic newspaper, this period begins on March 1, 2020, when the study was entirely suspended and ends on August 4, 2020, when the pupils resumed their distance learning (remotely).

Counselor Salah Al-Massad, the head of the Fatwa and Legislation Department, explained that the exemption contains two correlative conditions that do not replace one another: "the first is to take a precautionary measure to combat the spread of the (Corona) virus, and the second is that this measure entails completely stopping the activity during the period of the (Corona) virus."
