Saudi Arabia Bans Flights To And From India
Saudi Arabia has banned flights to and from India from Tuesday amid a surge in coronavirus cases, according to an official document. In a circular issued on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said it was “suspending travel to and from the following countries: India, Brazil and Argentina including any person who has been in any of the mentioned countries above in the last 14 days prior to their arrival to the Kingdom”.
Meanwhile Indian health authorities announced on Wednesday that 1,085 people succumbed to COVID-19 as 83,347 positive cases were registered from across the country in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the death toll due to coronavirus in the country rose to 90,020 while the caseload mounted to 5,646,010.
The health ministry said that 4,587,613 people recovered from the pandemic as it spread to 35 Indian states.
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana and Assam are the worst hit Indian states.
The central government had issued new guidelines for the fourth phase of unlock under which metro trains will be allowed to resume services in a graded manner.
The new guidelines also relaxed political, social and religious gatherings. However, schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will remain closed along with cinema halls, swimming pools, theatres and other similar places.
Restrictions imposed on containment zones will also remain operational until another notice.
