‘sand Dunes’ In Residential Area Makes Living Difficult
The head of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Residents Committee, Turki Al-Osaimi, called on the Minister of Housing, Shaya Al-Shaya, to address the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) to expedite the afforestation work to get rid of what he called ‘the sand dunes’ in the area. He noted the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has approved the afforestation of the area streets for 22 million dinars, but the approval did not find favor with the CTC on the pretext the priority now is to address the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Al-Osaimi said in a statement to Al-Seyassah daily that Minister Al-Shaya recently sent a letter to the PAAAFR and did its part and handed over the issue to the CTC as a result of which “now we hope Minister Al-Shaya will also address the CTC.” He added the health centers in the area have been receiving emergency cases since the beginning of the bad weather (duststorm) until now — the huge number of residents of Sabah Al-Ahmad City, especially those who suffer from asthma and chest allergies.
He pointed out the bad weather is particularly affecting the Sabah Al-Ahmad City because it is surrounded by desert areas in addition to its low land unlike the rest of the areas of Kuwait. He stated the weather also has affected the Grade 12 students living in the area because of sand collected on the roads which makes driving vehicles difficult. Al-Osaimi called for joining hands with oil companies, public benefit associations and the private sector to help afforestation of the area.
