After being convicted of sexually assaulting a Russian woman exercising on a walkway in Salwa area, an individual serving a sentence of 15 years with hard labor filed an appeal. The appeal was rejected by the Court of Cassation.

After the Public Prosecution charged him with sexually assaulting the victim on April 13, 2020, the accused was referred to trial. Another court ruling issued in 2017 sentenced him to five years in prison in another case. According to the Public Prosecution, the accused assaulted and raped the victim by choking, beating, and pinning her resistance, resulting in her injuries as described in the forensic medical report.

Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan, defense counsel for the Russian Embassy, said during the court session that the elements of initiating the crime of coercion against the accused were available, and the material and moral pillars of the crime were present.

It was proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the crime attributed to him, but he tried to deny the charges, claiming that he was insane and unaware of his actions. According to lawyer Al-Qattan, his mental health at the time of the crime was stable based on the submitted reports.
