22 December 2020 Visit Visa

A new service will be introduced in January to allow residency visa renewals for Article 20 visas for domestic workers online for 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced, Al Rai daily reported.

The Ministry indicated that this decision comes in implement a security strategy put in place to switch some department services to online. In addition, a special counter has been allocated to complete the transactions of the elderly and people with special needs.

Only recently, an updated version of Kuwait Mobile ID was launched to include domestic workers on Article 20 visas, reports an Arabic daily.

This updated version ensures that the estimated domestic workers, which exceeds 765,000 according to the latest statistics, can use an electronica visa to prove their identity, and residency in the country.

The app can be used to enter and exit Kuwait, and was downloaded by more than 1,100,000 users.

Informed sources revealed to Al-Qabas that this step came after the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) understood the need to add domestic workers visas for the app, especially as there are a large number of domestic workers outside the country, the cards in their possession had expired while the smart card feature was unavailable for their visas.

Their residency visa was renewed online by their sponsors.  Frequent meetings were held with technical experts and other government agencies to launch the new system that allows domestic workers to join the app and use it to return to the country and prove their identity when needed.

PAM is currently implementing a similar update for the benefit of children under 5 years of age, so parents can download the app for their children once the service is launched at a later time, and obtain a civil card online.
