Reconciliation Hopes At Tunis Summit
Tunisia is set to hold the 30th Arab Summit on Sunday with high hopes on Arab reconciliation and unification as analysts described. Although the summit’s agenda is not yet finalized, it will include key Arab issues including the Palestinian cause, the crises in Libya, Yemen and Syria, Arab security and foreign relations, Arab League Assistant Secretary General Abdullatif Obaid told KUNA on Saturday. The League is optimistic that the summit will create reconciliation between Arab countries and boost their joint work on all levels, he added.
On his part, political analyst Monther Thabit affirmed that the summit will allow Tunisia to once again play a diplomatic role in tackling issues and conflict between Arab states. He hoped the summit will unify the stance of conflicting parties in Libya to end the current crisis.
He added that Libya is moving in the right direction towards stability after agreeing on holding elections. Meanwhile, political analyst Salahuldin Al-Jorshi said that the confl ict between Arab countries gave the opportunity for other regional powers to attempt to take control over Arab affairs and violate their sovereignty.
Tunisia’s diplomacy is tasked with exerting great efforts in this summit to unify Arab states. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah left Saturday to Tunisia to partake in the Arab Summit scheduled on Sunday. His Highness the Amir, along with an accompanying official delegation, departed Kuwait Saturday, heading for Tunisia to head the State of Kuwait delegation at the 30th regular session of the Arab League Conference at the Summit Level, due in the Tunisian capital.
His Highness the Amir and his entourage were seen off at the airport by His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and senior State officials. His Highness the Amir was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al- Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Finance Dr Nayef Al-Hajraf, Amiri Diwan Advisor Mohammad Abulhassan, Head of Amiri Protocol Sheikh Khaled Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah.
Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will, meanwhile also, participate in the Arab Summit scheduled in Tunis on Sunday. The official Qatari news agency said on Saturday that the Amir would be accompanied by officials
