Ramadan Umrah Will Cost 700 Dinars Per Person
The number of flights from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah in the Holy Land has increased, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, with the expectation of an increase in the number of travelers to perform the ritual in the last ten days of the month, in light of a noticeable increase in flight prices and costs, since the first week, and hundreds of citizens and residents are crowding the Hajj and Umrah offices to go to Makkah to perform the ritual during the holy month of Rama
According to a local Arabic daily, since the Hajj and Umrah law was enacted, there have been no infractions because violators are aware of the rigorous restrictions and deterrent penalties if offices do not comply.
The cost of the pilgrimage varies depending on when the ritual is performed; for example, in the first 20 days of the holy month, prices range from 200 to 380 dinars for a double room, while in the last 10 days, costs rise to between 500 and 800 dinars for a double room. This means that the cost of Umrah for two people is 1,400 dinars, whereas VIP treatment is 2,000 dinars per person.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the cost of Umrah did not surpass 170 dinars, but now it varies according to the amenities supplied to the pilgrim, most notably the hotel's closeness to the Haram, suhoor, breakfast, and accommodation.
Many office owners ascribed these hikes to increases in pricing by hotels and services in the Holy Land, saying that the current costs are appropriate given the pandemic scenario, and the initial price is 200 dinars.
The new legislation enacted by the Kingdom to govern Umrah includes the prepayment of hotels in Makkah and Madinah via an electronic platform and the registration of pilgrims' names before entering the Holy Land, according to the office owners.
"Due to the exorbitant expenses of airplanes, traveling by land has become the favored alternative because it is considerably less expensive," they said, "especially when the Saudi authorities enabled citizens to complete Umrah by land."
Meanwhile, relevant authorities in the Ministry of Awqaf affirmed that the Hajj and Umrah offices are being closely monitored to prevent any illegal conduct.
According to sources, the government has approved 57 firms to conduct Umrah trips, and 9 tourist and travel organizations that also organize Umrah operations, bringing the total number of companies to 66, with pilgrims dispersed among 17 companies.
According to the report, the number of pilgrims traveling by land surpassed 2,600 in the first two weeks of Ramadan, with 1,524 arriving in the first week and 33 buses transporting them. There are 30 flights per week available for Kuwaitis and non-Kuwaitis.
