Private Schools Should Not Require Parents To Pay Registration Fees For Enrollment For The Next School Year 2020/2021
The Ministry of Education (MoE) highlighted that private schools should not require parents to pay registration fees for enrollment for the next school year 2020/2021, and noted that legal measures will be taken against schools that violate these instructions.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Special and Qualitative Education in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Huwaila announced in a circular yesterday, that as the announcements for the tuition fees and the dates are issued annually for the next academic year. Since the schools in the private and public education sector has not yet released an announcement for tuition fees for the academic year 2020/2021 under the current conditions of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, and according to the payment methods, registration fees for private schools are part of the tuition fees for each school and deducted from the value of the first installment for all children in all schools according to their payment systems.
Many parents submitted grievances via an online website that some private schools are requesting registration fees for the next academic year in order to complete the registration of students. MoE under its jurisdiction can approve certain measures to regarding tuition fees, and in light of the current exceptional circumstances facing the country, and in the public interest, it is not permissible for registration fees to be demanded for the academic year 2020/2021. MoE added that students will not be removed from the school registry for the academic year 2020/2021 due to non-payment of registration fees.
Al-Huwaila stressed that private schools may organize their student registry for the academic year 2020/2021 in a way that is deemed appropriate, without requiring payments for any extra fees under any name. He stressed that legal measures will be initiated against schools that commit such violations.
