Poll-runners Could Face Heavy Fines For Ads

The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality organized a wide campaign in the governorate to warn violators of Municipal law concerning election hoarding in private residential areas after discovering some candidates had placed election advertisements on their homes and state property. On the sidelines of the campaign, Director of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Municipality branch, Saad Al-Sharikah, confirmed the Municipality is conducting an inspection tour to monitors violations in the Mubarak Al- Kabeer governorate.

He added, the violators can end up paying fines between 1,000 and 3,000 dinars for violations on state property and immediate removal of the hoarding by the hoardings removal department. Al-Sharikah said that the campaign begins in the suburb of Sabah Al-Salem and ends in the residential area of Abu Futaira.

He added, it is not allowed to place any advertisements for candidates on private, investment or commercial housing, indicating that the citizens’ cooperation with the Municipality during the warning period will help them avoid committing violations.

The head of the department for removing violations in the Municipality of Mubarak Al- Kabeer, Eng Majed Al-Mutairi, said the first thing the committee targets is abandoned cars on which the pictures of the candidates are placed or his name and the constituency. In this case, the owner of the vehicle will be held responsible and the vehicle will be seized.

He added, the committee also looks at the advertising side – the first is placing a hoarding on state property without a licence which is removed immediately and the second is an advertisement on the private residence in which case the owner of the property is issued a warning to remove the hoarding within 24 hours and if the warning is not heeded, he/she is liable to pay between 1,000 and 3,000 dinars fine.
