Police Officer Arrested Due To Wrong Parking
Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah issued an order for the arrest of a police officer and his detention in prison for five days as well as issuance of a traffic citation because he parked his vehicle in a parking spot allocated for the disabled. According to security sources, photographs of a patrol vehicle parked in the parking spot for the disabled went viral on social media. Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah summoned the driver of the patrol vehicle who turned out to be a police officer of rank “Corporal”. He was taken to a prison for securitymen in Nuzha area. Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah stressed the need to apply the law on all without exception, adding that no one is above the law.
Companies fined: The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) during surprise inspection campaigns are said to have issued citations to many private sector companies for their non-commitment to duty hours of national manpower as per the instructions laid down by the PAM, reports Al-Rai daily. PAM has taken punitive measures and stopped support payments to Kuwaitis who were found to have violated the code and placed a ‘block’ on companies. An official source at the PAM stressed the campaigns will be nonstop to ensure a certain percentage of national workforce is employed by the private sector, each according to the nature of their work. According to PAM the employer must remain committed in controlling the attendance of employees or else they will be held responsible in case of leniency.
Drug addicts held: Police have recently arrested two drug addicts for harassing their respective families, reports Al-Rai daily. In the first case an unidentified Egyptian family sought the help of police when their son, who was high on drugs threatened to kill them. Police rushed to the spot, controlled the addict and seized from him a quantity of drugs. In another incident, a mother is said to have handed over to the police her drug addict son after he became hysterical. She has also handed over to the police a bagful of drug which the son had hidden under his bed. Both men have been referred for rehabilitation.
Smuggling bid foiled: The customs officers at the Al-Nuwaiseeb border post recently foiled two attempts by a GCC citizen and an Asian to smuggle cigarettes outside the country, reports Al-Anba daily. The officers are said to have seized 100 packets of different types of cigarettes. The GCC citizen had reported hidden the cigarettes in the spare tire of his SUV and the Asian had allegedly hidden 57 packets inside two computers. The contraband and the smugglers have been referred to the authorities.
