Pm Meets Media Chiefs In Bid For Transparency

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al- Hamad Al-Sabah has urged all citizens who have information concerning corruption to contact the Public Authority for Anti Corruption (Nazaha) with proofs, adding it should be done within one month starting from Sunday, Dec 1.

He assured every informant will be protected, according to directives issued by His Highness the Amir who personally has been following up the issue to ensure the state Constitution and institutions are strengthened.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid made this known during a meeting he held with the Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij, Chairperson of Kuwait Journalists Association (KJA) Fatmah Hussain, and Editors-in-Chief of local newspapers. He affirmed that interacting with media outfits is due to the belief in their role and partnership.

He explained that the Amir in all his addresses talks about social media platforms as regard the disgusting level of its usage, indicating regulation of the sector will be a major point of deliberation with the National Assembly.

He stressed that there is space for political activities and relationship with the National Assembly, but it will not be at the expense of public funds and rights of citizens. The Prime Minister stated the prevailing situation in the region has implications, but people will not be captives of that parturition.

He reminded the entire world will be in the region for the G20 2020 Riyadh Summit in Saudi Arabia, Expo 2020 in Dubai, and World Cup in Qatar, so the discussion should be focused on how to benefit from them. He expressed delight over the achievements of GCC countries, and no matter how much the country lags behind, there are many achievements that started long ago.

He continued, “All that we need now is the determination and management, so that is exactly what we are working towards achieving. Kuwaiti youth will participate in 100 activities in Saudi Arabia throughout a full year.” He reaffirmed that efforts of the Amir to an extent, have paid off in the Gulf reconciliation, adding the 24th Gulf Cup in Qatar is one of such steps and the GCC Summit in Riyadh is very crucial.

He declared, nobody can dispute the fact that the situation the Gulf house finds itself is painful but “we shall rely on wisdom of the leaders.”

He pointed out that the basis of Iranian Hormuz initiative is the responsibility of the region, saying “there are others such as the guard initiative (the US initiative for protection of Gulf marine navigation), European initiative, and Russian initiative. He declared that Tehran should ensure natural relationship with other countries to promote acceptance of the Iranian initiative.

He hinted that successes of the Iranian initiative require availability of the right atmosphere, so Iran should improve its relationship with concerned neighboring states and the world that benefit from the Strait of Hormuz for its initiative to be accepted.

As per when the Cabinet composition will be unveiled, he said it will happen at the appropriate time, stressing “I will keep extending the hands of fellowship to the National Assembly, but what I will never accept is complacency to achieve cooperation.” “Corruption must be tamed to strengthen state institutions.

Therefore, we should start with government agencies and review what the government has built within the past two years to reduce flaccidity and accomplish elegance. There is a serious resistance from about 80,000 middle class administrative staff in the government agencies,” the Prime Minister concluded.
