Plan To Evaluate Performance Of Kuwait University Lecturers

Kuwait University is planning to place the performance level of each of its lecturers under the microscope of evaluation. The evaluation points include teaching performance, community service, the amount of revenues the professor contributes to the university, and other aspects, within the framework of developing recommendations aimed at strengthening the university’s global classification, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to a recommendation submitted to the university administration by the recently formed classification improvement committee, a form should be prepared to evaluate each of the university’s faculty members. It is to be included in the annual report of the faculties. The university seeks to achieve total quality, which requires attention to the performance of the faculty and the use of modern methods and strategies that contribute to its improvement and development.

The recommendation stipulated two phases — the first for the annual report of the faculties to include part of the evaluation of the lecturers, and the second to measure the performance of the lecturers according to six indicators whereby each indicator represents the acceptable performance of each faculty member. The top three measurement indicators proposed by the committee in its recommendations were research productivity, teaching quality by measuring the number of courses taught by a university lecturer, and the average assessment of the level of teaching in all courses, as well as their online presence, which means the number of updated profiles on professional platforms on the Internet and the university website. The fourth indicator is community service, which is measured by the number of committees in which a faculty member has participated at the levels of department, college and university. The fifth indicator is their membership in professional associations and prestigious associations and fellowships. As for the last indicator, it is the amount of financial income that the lecturer brings to the university through the training and advice he provides to the public and private sectors.
