'pfizer's' Effectiveness Against 'omicron' Dropped To 12 Percent In Children

03 March 2022 Health

New York state health officials report that they have discovered that the effectiveness of two doses of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine against children between the ages of 5 and 11 has declined to a level of 12 percent, in connection with the outbreak of the mutant Omicron virus.

According to the New York State Department of Health, the effectiveness rate dropped by 68 percent to 12 percent as schools plan to eliminate the use of face masks by March 7, 2022.

During the peak of the Omicron outbreak from Dec 13, 2021 to Jan 24, 2022, a sharp decline was observed in the study, which was supervised by the NYS health ministry.

The percentage of children protected by vaccines against symptoms that require hospitalization increased to almost 100 percent before that period, but has decreased to 48 percent since then.

The researchers caution that although the results have not yet been peer-reviewed, it may be partially due to the small doses given to children of this age group, 10 microgram injections per child, as opposed to children aged 12 to 17 years, which receive 30 microgram injections per child.
